Justin Safayeni

Justin Safayeni is an experienced litigator whose practice focuses on administrative and public law, media/defamation law, and commercial litigation and appeals. In his public law practice, he represents clients in judicial reviews, statutory appeals, and hearings before tribunals, and he also acts as independent legal counsel to a number of regulators. In his media/defamation practice, he regularly acts for parties in defamation cases and anti-SLAPP motions. He also acts for parties seeking access to court documents, bringing access information requests, or seeking pre-publication advice to minimize defamation and privacy law liability and risk. In his commercial litigation practice, Justin represents clients in contract and shareholder disputes, oppression remedy cases, employment law matters, commercial fraud cases, and a wide range of other commercial disputes. Justin has appeared before all levels of court, including before the Supreme Court of Canada as lead counsel. He served as law clerk to the Justices Laskin, Goudge, and MacFarland at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. He teaches administrative law, serves as the co-editor of the firm’s administrative law newsletter, and writes frequently on legal topics in academic, industry, and mainstream publications.
